Is Brexit worth risking peace in Northern Ireland?
United Kingdom
Earlier this week Cardiff University and the University of Edinburgh released the latest The Future of England study. Of the results of the survey into constitutional attitudes in the UK, one question stood out particularly for its shocking responses in Northern Ireland. The respondents were told it has been suggested that leaving the EU might lead to the unravelling of the peace process in Northern Ireland and were then asked if they think Brexit would be worth jeopardising the process for.
When looking at the overall results, 33 percent of adults in Northern Ireland said they think it would be worth it in order to 'take back control'. Of those who voted 'Leave' in the EU referendum however, a massive 87 percent said they feel it would be worth the risk. Looking at respondents identifying as 'broadly unionist', 70 percent were of this opinion.
