The News Stories People Want to Read More Of
News Topics
What people want, and what they actually read are quite different. About three in ten U.S. adults surveyed by Survey Monkey said they wish there were more healthcare and environmental news coverage. For healthcare coverage, only about a quarter of people surveyed currently followed those stories. When it came to environmental stories, only about two in ten U.S. respondents followed the environmental coverage that is already out there.
A third of people followed the current coverage of politics and government stories, the highest follow rate of any story type. Only about one in ten people wanted more of that type of coverage though. With a 24/7 news cycle, quickly evolving stories, and so many choices when it comes to outlets, many people have begun to experience news fatigue and avoidance, particularly around widely covered stories.
