Industry revenue of »manufacture of soft drinks and bottled waters« in Spain 2011-2023

Revenues in the soft drink and bottled water manufacturing industry are expected to grow only marginally over the decade leading up to 2023, from 5.6 billion U.S. dollars in 2013 to 6.2 billion U.S. dollars. One of the reasons for such tepid growth is the new tax levied on sugary drinks in parts of the country such as Catalonia. Consumers now have to pay more to have drinks such as flavored water, energy drinks, chocolate drinks, sports drinks, cold tea and fruit juices made from concentrate. The average retail price of most of fizzy and soft drinks witnessed an increase over the period 2011-2018. Tonic water is the most expensive drink in this category with fizzy water being the least expensive.

Supermarkets are the leading distribution channel

Supermarkets are by far the leading distribution channel for all types of soft drinks and bottled water in Spain, with a share of as much as 74% in 2018, followed by hypermarkets (17.1%), e-Commerce (2.2%) and specialist shops (0.9%). Mercadona, Carrefour, Grupo Dia, Grupo Eroski and Lidl are the top five supermarkets in the country.
