05.09.2018 Global Smart TV Industry Whitepaper– Revenues and Business Opportunities for the Smart TV Ecosystem

Hamburg, Shenzhen [05.09.2018]. Statista Research and Analysis, in cooperation with Chinese smart TV manufacturer TCL Multimedia and its subsidiary FFalcon Technology,  is going to present a new white paper on the global Smart TV industry on September 15th, 2018 during the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam.

Despite positive global economic development, increasing internet penetration and high overall adoption of smart TVs, the smart TV market faces an uncertain future. Digital content providers with their own streaming devices expand their device portfolio with their own smart TV sets and therefore present manufacturers with both threats and opportunities.

Starting with the overall global market environment, the white paper examines the developments that have shaped the current smart TV markets. While global consumers watch less linear TV than five years ago, the overall consumption of TV content has stayed constant. Video on demand consumption has impressively filled the gap. By exploring such consumer trends, the analysis outlines whether changing consumer behaviour affects the position of (smart) TVs in everyday life. Manufacturers of smart TVs are under threat from digital streaming devices that are in high demand - shipment numbers have grown by more than 20% annually since 2013.

We present our research on the omnipresent importance of digital over-the-top video services which are expected to reach a user base of nearly 620 million consumers in 2020. These services translate into potential future business models for TV manufacturers. Based on selected TV manufacturer and digital content provider strategies, the white paper outlines case studies to illustrate the value of cooperation and differentiation for future smart TV business models.

Together with TCL and FFalcon Technology, Statista Research and Analysis will present the white paper findings on September 15th, 2018 during the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam. The IBC is the world’s most influential media, entertainment and technology show.
