Glyphosate-related penalty payments made by Bayer in the US as of 2019

In May 2019, German chemical and pharmaceutical company Bayer was sentenced to pay over two billion U.S. dollars in penalties to a Californian couple who developed cancer after using the company's glyphosate-based weed killer. Since August 2018, this was the third glyphosate-related verdict against Bayer in the United States. As of May 2019, Bayer still has to face some 13,400 more lawsuits related to glyphosate.
