In 2018, the leading cause of death among chronic diseases in the Americas was heart or cardiovascular problems, with a mortality rate of nearly 62 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. It was followed by Cerebrovascular diseases with a death rate of 33.6 per 100,000 population.
