Slave imports into Thirteen Colonies by state and year 1768-1772
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, between 1768 and 1772, almost 27.5 thousand slaves were imported into the Thirteen colonies (and Florida) from Africa or from other European colonies in the Americas. Of this 27.5 thousand, over 15.5 thousand arrived in South Carolina, with almost half of these coming in 1772. After South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia were the most common destinations for imported slaves, with 4.6 and 3.9 thousand arrivals respectively in these years. Of the Thirteen Colonies, Delaware and New Jersey were the only colonies without any slave arrivals in these years.
