Number of Facebook likes for political parties in the UK 2024

As of January 2024, the Labour Party of the United Kingdom had one million likes on Facebook making it the UK political party with the most likes on the social media platform. The governing Conservative party had over 753 thousand likes. Although they were the third most popular party in opinion polls the Liberal Democrats had only 199 thousand Facebook likes, behind the SNP, the Green Party. Reform UK, and Sinn Féin.

Political leaders on social media

While Labour were clearly the most popular party on Facebook, their leader Keir Starmer has just 98 thousand likes on Facebook, compared to Boris Johnson’s 1.448 million. Johnson also has the most followers on Twitter compared to leaders of other political parties at 2.8 million, with Starmer on 866 thousand. In terms of political parties however Labour had almost 411 thousand more followers than the Conservative party.

Party membership

  In terms of party membership, the Labour party also has by far the highest number of members at around 485 thousand, more than double that of the Conservative party which had just 180 thousand. Of Labour’s party members, 22 percent were under the age of 39, compared with 18 percent of Conservative party members. The Green party had the highest share of members under the age of 39 at 35 percent, while 68 percent of UKIP’s members were over 65.
