Medal count by country in the Women's Sprint Hurdles at the Summer Olympics 1932-2020
The Women's 80m Hurdles was introduced in the 1932 Summer Olympics, and the event was reformatted to the 100m Hurdles in 1972. Since the 1930s, athletes from the United States have seen the most success in these events, winning four golds and eight other medals; this is just a fraction of the total medals won by US athletes in the men's event, which currently stands at 57 total medals. Australian athletes have also won four gold medals in women's hurdle events, and the most successful athlete was the Australian Shirley Strickland, who won two golds and one bronze medal in the 80m hurdles between 1948 and 1956. No athlete has ever been stripped of a medal in this event.
