Over the period of consideration, rail freight carload figures fluctuated in August year by year, with the lowest figure recorded in 2019. Rail freight carloads in the United States peaked in 2014 but have steadily dropped over the period thereafter, with the exception of 2018, which recorded a temporary increase in carloads.
