Production value of pears from South Africa 2000-2019
As of 2018/20189, the preliminary production value of pears amounted to roughly three billion South African Rands (approximately 181.5 million U.S. dollars), which represented a 3.1 percent increase from the preceding year. Since 2000, a gradual increase has been measured in the production value, with few fluctuations. One major drop was registered in 2016/17, when the value dropped to 2.03 billion Rands (around 168.3 million U.S. dollars). The decline may be linked to a drought occurred in the same period.
