Number of universities in major cities of China 2021
In 2021, the highest number of public colleges and universities (regular institutions of higher education) of major cities in China were to be found in Beijing, numbering 92. On the second place ranked Wuhan and Guangzhou with 83 institutions. Hangzhou and Shenzhen, which are major centers of innovation in China and home to several well-known high-tech companies, had only 40 and 14 public colleges and universities respectively.
