Area treated against desert locusts invasions in African countries 2021
Nearly 28 thousand hectares of land were treated against desert locusts' invasions in Africa as of December 2021. Somalia had the largest area covered by control operations, 24 thousand hectares. Desert locusts can eat extensive areas of vegetation, damaging food crops and the pasture for livestock. Consequently, the pest threatens the livelihood of many Africans as well as the agricultural sector.
