Breastfeeding rates among U.S. infants born in 2017
While the percentage of infants ever breastfed was high, rates dropped to 58 percent at 6 months. Furthermore, only 1 in 4 infants born in 2017 were exclusively breastfed through 6 months. It is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics that infants be exclusively breastfed for about the first 6 months with continued breastfeeding whilst introducing complementary foods for at least one year.
