Number of out-of-school children in Africa 2000-2019, by educational level
In 2019, 34 million children in primary education age in Africa were not enrolled in school. This number decreased from 45 million in 2000. On the other hand, the number of adolescents and young people not enrolled at the secondary level increased. In 2019, there were 30 million out-of-school children in the lower secondary education, against 26 million in 2000. In the upper secondary level, the number expanded from 33 million to 41 million in the same period.
