Food affordability score in South Africa from 2012-2022
In 2022, the food affordability score for South Africa fell to 63.4 points. This was a slight drop compared to the previous year when the country punctuated 63.1 points. During the period under review, the food affordability index was highest in 2019. The current overall food security environment score in the country was measured at 61.7 points. Food affordability, availability, quality and safety, as well as sustainability and adaptation made up the four major categories of the Global Food Security Index (GFSI).
