Food availability score in South Africa from 2012-2022
In 2022, the food availability score for South Africa was measured at 54.2 points. This was an increase compared to the previous year, when the country punctuated 49.4. During the period under review, the food availability index was highest in 2016. The current overall food security environment score in the country amounted to 61.7 points. Food affordability, availability, quality and safety, as well as sustainability and adaptation make up the four major categories of the Global Food Security Index (GFSI).
