Green building certifications used by the largest REITs in the U.S. 2022
The LEED certification was the most popular among the properties within the portfolios of real estate investment trusts (REITs) in the United States in 2022. Approximately 63 percent of the REITs surveyed used the LEED system to certify their buildings. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and provides a framework for different aspects of a building's sustainability, including energy, material, and water sustainability.
