E. coli is the leading cause of community-acquired bloodstream infections and urinary tract infection. As of 2021, resistance to aminopenicillin antibiotics was the most common form of E. coli antibiotic resistance in EU and EEA countries, with 53.1 percent, followed by resistance to fluoroquinolones.
