Patients making use of healthcare in Mexico, 2021, by gender and service type
In 2021, the share of patients aged 53 years and older making use of healthcare in Mexico was highest among women, compared to men. The most common type of service used was medical appointments, by nearly 74 and 60 percent of women and men, respectively. That year, 12 percent of women and 10 percent of men within that age group were hospitalized or had to undergo ambulatory surgery. Within the analyzed age range, around 60 percent of women perceived their state of health as fair, compared to 50 percent of men.
