Total U.S. federal HIV/AIDS federal funding from 2019, by program

HIV/AIDS program funding is critical to ending the global epidemic and caring for people living with HIV/AIDS. The U.S. has a well established budget that offers funding for health services through a variety of programs. As of 2019 the National Institutes of Health received the largest distribution of the federal discretionary budget for HIV/ADS. Among mandatory programs, Medicare received the largest amount of funding with 11 billion U.S. dollars reserved for FY 2019. In total, about 28 billion U.S. dollars are budgeted annually for preventing, treating and managing HIV/ADS in the U.S.

“Other domestic funding” includes amounts at: HHS Office of the Secretary; Health Resources and Services Administration; Food and Drug Administration; Indian Health Service; Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality; the DC Fund, and the Departments of Defense, Justice, and Labor.
