As a result, the level of customer service experienced in fast food drive-thrus in the United States can fluctuate depending on the time of day. From May to August 2015, during breakfast time, 33.4 percent of fast food restaurant drive-thrus expressed very friendly customer service. By late night-time, however, only 28.5 percent of fast food restaurant drive thrus expressed very friendly customer service.

Quick service restaurant chains are regularly called into question for their supply and production of unhealthy foods. In an online survey in 2016, respondents who eat at a fast food restaurant at least once per year were asked; 'how much of a role does having healthy options on the menu play in choosing a fast-food restaurant?' 39 percent of respondents stated that healthy options play a major role when choosing a fast-food restaurant.

In 2016, a Restaurant Habits Survey was carried out among Americans aged 18 years and older to determine their frequency of dining out at quick service restaurants. When asked; 'how often do you dine out at quick service restaurants?' 20 percent of respondents stated that they dined out at quick service restaurants once per week. In comparison, 18 percent of respondents stated they dined out several times per week and six percent of respondents stated that they dined out at a quick service restaurant daily.
