In 2023, the commercial airlines estimated to register roughly 49.3 billion U.S. dollars in operation income, a 21 percent increase compared to the previous year. Over the period given, there were dramatic profit losses in 2020 and 2021. These were directly related to the coronavirus pandemic since the global aviation industry was one of the most affected sectors by the pandemic.
