Ford Motor Corporation's vehicle sales in the United States in 3rd quarter 2018 and 2019, by segment
Ford Motor Co. - vehicle sales in the United States by segment 2019
In a comparison between the third quarter of 2018 and the third quarter of 2019, the number of Ford-badged vehicles sold to customers throughout the United States decreased from almost 582,000 to around 548,000. Sales of Lincoln-badged vehicles had increased by over 2,500 units between the two time periods.

Decline in passenger car sales

In an effort to reduce costs and boost profitability, Ford is in the midst of an overhaul process. The company is making significant product-line changes and refurbishments to several regional business units. Another part of this process is slimming the payroll: Ford's workforce decreased to 199,000 employees in 2018.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and autonomous driving

Looking to remain a competitive player in the industry, Ford committed 8.2 billion U.S. dollars to research and development in 2018 alone. The company has been viewing AI as a new, lucrative direction for the company to develop partially autonomous vehicles. As such, Ford has announced plans to invest over four billion U.S. dollars in AI technology development through 2023.
