American Airlines
American Airlines, founded in 1926 and which commenced operations ten years later, is the result of mergers and acquisitions of more than 80 small airlines throughout its history. The last known merger with US Airways in December 2013, formed the group known today as the American Airlines Group (AAG). After the merger with US Airways, the company considerably increased its operating revenue, generating more than 44.5 billion U.S. dollars from transporting passengers all over the world in 2018. In the domestic market, it is the leading airline in the United States, with a market share of 17.8 percent, followed by Southwest and Delta Air Lines.
American Airlines’ major hubs
Headquartered at Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, the airline handled over 19.5 million passengers from its main hub, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in 2018. The airport also handled over 69 million passengers to destinations worldwide. In the same year, more than 12 million passengers boarded American Airlines’ flights at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The airline is expanding at these two airports by adding new daily routes in 2019.
