Domestic and international conflicts by intensity 2022

In 2022, there were 21 limited wars, of which nine escalated from violent crises or non-violent crises. Violent crises increased in 2022 to 174, compared to 164 in 2021. Of each conflict type, the most common is violent intrastate conflict, composing 30 percent of all conflicts.

According to the source, disputes and non-violent crises are defined as a non-violent conflict, thus having a low intensity. The source further differentiates between medium intensity conflicts (violent crises) and high intensity conflicts (limited wars and wars in general).
