Global population with sanitation access by type

An estimated 4.5 billion people worldwide had access to safely managed sanitation services in 2022. This was an increase of 2.5 billion people since the turn of the century. In 2000, 21.4 percent of the world's population practiced open defecation, but by 2022 this figure had fallen to 5.3 percent.
