Global sanitation coverage by region

Regional coverage of safely managed sanitation facilities varies greatly around the world. Roughly 96 percent of the populations in Australia and New Zealand, and Europe and Northern America had access to safely managed services in 2022. In comparison, just 24 percent had access to these services in Sub-Saharan Africa. Since 2000, the number of people with access to safely managed sanitation services is estimated to have more than doubled worldwide.
