Government spending: council tax benefit-2013

This statistic shows the United Kingdom (UK) government spending on council tax benefit from fiscal year 2002/03 to fiscal year 2012/13. Over this 11 year period, the government paid out a total of 45 billion British pounds (GBP) in council tax benefits. On 1 April, 2013, council tax benefit was abolished by the government and replaced by 'council tax reduction'. This was designed to save the government money and meant that some households lost out on a part, or all, of the previous benefit they had been receiving.
