Population owning a business in Europe 2022

In 2022, Greece was the European country where the highest share of the adult population was owning and running an established business, reaching over 13 percent. In Latvia, the country with the second highest established business ownership rate, 12 percent was owning an established business. On the other hand, less than three percent were running and owning an established business in France and Serbia.

Established businesses and their owner-managers often provide stable employment and exploit the knowledge and social capital accumulated in past experiences. Established businesses are also an important source of new businesses.
