Misperceived weight status among U.S. boys by BMI 2005-2012
This statistic depicts the weight status misperception among boys in the United States, aged 8 to 15 years, in the period between 2005 and 2012, based on body mass index (BMI). During these years, 10.3 percent of boys between 8 and 15 years old that were at a normal BMI believed themselves to be too thin. Obesity among children is a major health concern that can lead to many complications in adulthood. Correct self-perception of weight in children may also be associated with appropriate weight control behaviors in children and adolescents.
