Top reasons for TBI-related hospitalizations in the U.S. 2014
This statistic displays the top four most common causes for traumatic brain injury (TBI) related hospitalizations in the United States as of 2014. Some 22 percent of TBI hospitalizations were due to an assault. TBI can be caused by both direct and indirect blow to the head which can cause the head to jerk around and lead to potential brain injury. There is an estimated 2.5 million TBIs that occur in U.S. emergency room visits every year.
