The figures for 1999 to 2007 were taken from a government report ( "Kommunikations- und Medienbericht der Bundesregierung").
The figures for 2008 to 2011 were taken from ZAW reports, or the ZAW yearbook 'Werbung in Deutschland'.
Not taken into account: around 200,000 telemarketing jobs in call centres. The ZAW estimates that these are occupied by two employees each.
The figures for 2001 to 2013 do not include digital economy jobs (2011: 364,000; 2012: 390,000; 2013: 395,000).
