Italy: new passenger car registrations 2007-2018 The Italian passenger car market experienced growth after a decrease in new passenger car registrations between 2007 and 2013. In essence, the numbers decreased from 2.5 million in 2007 to 1.3 million in 2013. The number of new car registrations increased again between 2013 and 2017, from approximately 1.3 million in 2013 to almost 2 million in 2017. However, in 2018 the number of registrations decreased by about three percent on the previous year. Correspondingly, the same development could be seen with the number of passenger cars sold in Italy.
Leading car brands and models in 2018

The leading car models sold in Italy in 2018 from January to October, were Fiat Panda, Fiat 500X and Renault CLIO, with respectively 99.8 thousand, 43.8 thousand and 42.8 thousand units sold. In fact, Italy is the most important market for Fiat, with a sales value of 9.4 million US dollars in 2019.

Car sharing

Car sharing usage in Italy is on the rise. In a survey, 45 percent of the respondents agreed with the statement, that car sharing services help reduce urban traffic and pollution. Similarly, 45 percent agreed, that care sharing is an economic alternative compared to taxis.
