Number of hotels in London 2015, by room amount
The performance of the hotel industry in London is important for both the real estate and hospitality sectors in terms of new hotel construction and hotel room supply. London’s total hotel room supply was measured to be approximately 146 thousand rooms in 2016, with an additional supply of 7,200 rooms forecast for 2017.
As a leading city destination, the market for hotels and occupancy rates in London remain high. The majority of hotel establishments operate in central London, with the highest proportion based in the Westminster and City of London areas.
The luxury hotel sector is also a major segment of the London hotel market. The largest share of rooms in the city is within hotels with a 4-star rating. However despite 4-star and 5-star hotels accounting for over twice as many budget rooms, it is the budget hotel brands Premier Inn and Travelodge that rank as the leading hotel companies for room supply in London.
