The source explains that the acquisition of Dutch citizenship, other than by birth, includes adoptions, naturalizations, and acknowledgements. What is not included are foundlings, third generation immigrants and children who had a Dutch father or mother at the time of birth. The source adds that between April 1, 2003 and March 1, 2009 it was impossible to obtain Dutch citizenship through acknowledgement.
