Energy consumption share Japan 2021, by source
In 2021, oil accounted for over 37 percent of the total energy consumption in Japan, followed by coal with around 27 percent. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to be less dependent on fossil fuel imports, Japan aims to increase its nuclear and renewable energy share.
