In 2019, the United States spent about 130 billion U.S. dollars on digital advertising. This is an increase of over 20 billion U.S. dollars compared to the previous year. Digital advertising expenditures are set to increase significantly in the coming years, reaching over 200 billion U.S. dollars by 2023. Between 2016 and 2018, about 45 percent of all online advertising revenue in the United States was specifically generated through search advertising. Banner ads accounted for roughly a third of the revenue each year.
