Share of supermarket revenue that is generated through online grocery shopping from October 2015 to June 2019
Share of supermarket revenue generated online in the Netherlands 2015-2019
Based on survey resuts from June 2019, more than three percent of the total Dutch supermarket revenue was generated through online grocery platforms. Albert Heijn, Jumbo and Picnic were the three biggest online supermarkets of the Netherlands in 2019, together taking up almost 90 percent of the market. The most cited argument not to buy food online was that there is a supermarket already close to home. Another reason was that consumers preferred to check the product’s quality before purchasing.
