Types of coffee consumed at home in the United Kingdom (UK) in 2017
Instant coffee
The invention and patenting of instant coffee dates back to 1881. Its widespread popularity among the British population is associated with the U.S. ration packs that were sent to the United Kingdom during World War Two. Despite the widespread popularity, its current status might be a subject to change as the younger generation of Britons prefers coffee in a wider variety of forms. While the U.S. got the UK hooked on instant coffee, consumers in the States prefer to make drip coffee for themselves.
The U.S. market
On the U.S retail level, dry coffee products generated approximately 9.4 billion U.S. dollars in sales in 2017. As of 2018, Folgers was the dominating regular ground coffee brand in the United States. With produced sales of approximately one billion U.S. it led the ranking by a significant margin.
