Domestic trips in Italy by accommodation type 2022

The number of domestic trips in Italy experienced a significant annual increase in 2022 but remained below the figure reported in 2019, the year prior to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Both before and after the impact of the health crisis, hotels were the most popular type of accommodation for domestic tourism in Italy. In 2022, roughly 15.6 million domestic trips included a hotel stay. Meanwhile, homes of relatives or friends were the second most popular choice for domestic travel, with around 13 million trips that year.
