Share of trips taken by Italian outbound tourists 2019-2020, by transport
In 2020, the plane was the most popular means of transport for outbound trips taken by Italians. That year, plane trips abroad accounted for roughly 59 percent of all outbound journeys made by Italians, while they represented 67.5 percent of all outbound trips in 2019. Meanwhile, the share of car trips abroad rose from around 21 percent in 2019 to nearly 31 percent in 2020.
