Same-day domestic trips in Italy by purpose 2022

The number of same-day trips in Italy experienced a significant annual increase in 2022 but remained below the figure reported in 2019, prior to the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Both before and after the impact of the health crisis, Italians took most domestic one-day trips for leisure, recreation, and free time purposes. In 2022, domestic same-day travelers made roughly 28 million trips for such reasons. That year, same-day visits to relatives and friends reached nearly 8.5 million.
