Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the annual holiday expenditure of German travelers in Italy fell sharply in 2020 when compared to the previous year. While the expenditure of German vacationers in Italy amounted to roughly 5.6 billion euros in 2019, it dropped to approximately 2.7 billion euros in 2020. Meanwhile, the spending of U.S. visitors decreased from 3.7 billion in 2019 to just 246 million in 2020.
