Electricity price variation for an average domestic consumer in Italy Q1 2016-Q4 2022
In Italy, the electricity price for an average domestic consumer in the regulated market drifted by 59 percent from the reference electricity price in the last quarter of 2022. Electricity price variations were normally smaller than ten percent until 2020. After COVID-19 health crisis and the economic recovery that followed, electricity prices started to increase. The price changes peaked at over 50 percent after the Russian invasion of Ukraine at the beginning of 2022 and they fluctuated ever since. In the last quarter of 2022, the electricity price for an average household consumer in Italy was at its all-time maximum, amounting to 66 euro cents per kilowatt-hours.
