This statistic highlights the market share of investment mandates on the Italian asset management market as of December 2017, broken down my mandate type. According to data, a large proportion of the asset management mandates were insurance investments (61 percent). Pension plans and discretionary mandate assets accounted for ten and nine percent of the total investment portfolio, respectively.

*Discretionary portfolio management in Italy is divided into GPFs (gestioni patrimoniali in fondi) and GPMs (gestioni patrimoniali mobiliari).

GPMs invest directly in transferable securities (shares and/or bonds). They can also invest in collective investment undertakings (mutual funds and open-ended mutual funds/Sicavs).
