The graph shows the share of Canadians who agree that data collected by the government should belong to citizens. The 2017 findings reveal that 75 percent of respondents agreed that data collected by governments should be owned by the citizens they collected it from, and 72 percent agreed that data generated by Canadians should be protected and regulated like a natural resource. Conversely, 27 percent of respondents agreed that data collected by governments should be given freely to the private sector in order to create products, services, jobs and economic growth.
