In Italy, Facebook dominates the ranking of most used social media. In 2018, 84 percent of its users browsed on Facebook more times a day or a week, while only seven percent logged in occasionally. YouTube followed with 54 percent of regular users and 30 percent of occasional ones.

Facebook regular users

  A survey conducted in the same year showed that women and men tend to use Facebook differently. In terms of frequency, women used Facebook more regularly. About 42 percent of Italian female users stated to use Facebook almost always. The same share among male users was about 32 percent.

  Facebook is not just a social network and a media platform. It is the provider of the second most used instant messaging app. In 2018, 39 percent of Italian users chatted on the mobile app of Facebook Messenger, while WhatsApp was used by 59 percent of mobile users.
