Latin America: most valuable football teams 2020

In 2020, São Paulo, Brazil was home of the two most valuable professional soccer teams in Latin America. Worth over 582 million U.S. dollars, SC Corinthians topped the ranking that year, while SE Palmeiras followed with a value of roughly 525 million U.S. dollars. Out of the nine most valued soccer clubs in the region in 2020, four of them are from the South American soccer power.

The king of popularity

But the value of a team cannot be only measured by its monetary assets. Its popularity among soccer fans also plays a crucial role, especially among competing fans in the region. From this perspective, CR Flamengo dominates with the largest fan base in South America in 2019, surpassing the Corinthians by nearly nine million people. This widespread popularity is also reflected in the team’s social media, where Flamengo’s number of followers surpasses all other Brazilian soccer clubs’. Until June 2020, roughly 31.5 million users of five of the most popular social networks worldwide followed the club on these platforms.

Who’s won the most titles?

As of August 2020, two Uruguayan soccer clubs from Montevideo could pride themselves to be the top football championship winners in Latin America. Up until then, the Club Nacional de Football had previously lifted a trophy 146 times, while comparatively Peñarol had done so on 127 occasions. When only considering international soccer trophies, the Argentine clubs Avellaneda and Boca Juniors take the lead in the whole region.
