Total banking assets as share of GDP in Italy 2007-2022
The total consolidated assets of domestic banking groups as share of nominal GDP in Italy increased significantly the following two years after the lowest point of 136.6 percent in 2018. In 2020, assets of the banking sector amounted to 173.25 percent of the country's GDP, the highest in the observed period. In 2021 and 2022, it decreased notably but remained relatively high. As of 2022, total assets of the banking sector in Italy amounted to 149.8 percent of the GDP.
